Welcome University of Maryland Medical Center
The University of Maryland Medical Center (UMMC) is the flagship academic medical center at the heart of UMMS and includes the 789-bed downtown Baltimore campus and the 177-bed midtown campus one mile north. The medical staff comprises nearly 1,200 attending physicians who are faculty members at the University of Maryland School of Medicine, as well as 900 residents and fellows in all medical specialties.1
The University of Maryland Anesthesiology has 51 ORs and 67 ICU beds. They have 106 faculty, 40 resident positions, 59.7 CRNAs and nearly 60 staff. All anesthesiology subspecialties are represented ambulatory, cardiac, critical care, obstetrics, regional anesthesia, acute and chronic pain management, pediatrics, neurosurgery, trauma and transplantation. The department delivers care in sites outside the operating room such as interventional radiology, endoscopy and cardiac catheterization.
Research led by department members covers areas of brain injury, neuroprotection, acute lung injury, telemedicine, hemoglobin substitutes, chronic pain management and human factors engineering patient safety. They are actively involved in clinical trials and have a growing relationship with the Department of Defense and have a collegial relationship with the Office of Clinical Trials in the School of Medicine.2
