The Patient Blood Management Toolkit addresses measures TRAN 01 and 02.
Introduction
The Patient Blood Management Toolkit encompasses MPOG QI Measures TRAN 01 and TRAN 02 with a focus on best transfusion practices in cardiac, orthopedic and general surgery. This toolkit is designed to meet the following objectives:
- Discuss risks and outcomes associated with transfusion
- Describe ASPIRE transfusion measures
- Provide general recommendations based on Anesthesiology Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) Transfusion Guidelines (2015)
- Share procedure-specific considerations presented in the literature for orthopedic, cardiac oncologic, and general surgery
- Summarize ASPIRE recommendations based on literature presented
- Review best practices when transfusion cannot be avoided:
- Massive Transfusion Protocols
- Obstetric Hemorrhage Protocols (ACOG Recommendations)
