Roles and Requirements
Role Summary
The Mulcenter Perioperave Outcomes Group (MPOG) Site Principal Invesgator (PI) is
typically an anesthesiologist who serves as the primary research champion at their instuon.
The PI is responsible for leading local data eorts associated with MPOG parcipaon,
represenng the instuon at the Perioperave Clinical Research Commiee (PCRC) meengs,
and ensuring that scienc proposals developed by their instuon are feasible and align with
MPOG's mission.
Key Responsibilies Include:
• MPOG Research Process Knowledge
o Maintain a comprehensive understanding of the MPOG Research Proposal
Process, MPOG Tips & Tricks modules, and key tools such as DataDirect,
Phenotype Browser, and Concept Browser.
o Stay informed about the PCRC Template and PCRC Query Specicaon and be
knowledgeable about procedures for subming MPOG proposals, manuscripts,
and related documentaon.
• Data Management
o Oversee roune submission of the required instuonal limited clinical dataset
to the central MPOG server.
o Ensure compliance with all regulatory standards and Instuonal Review Board
(IRB) requirements for parcipaon in MPOG and use of data for analysis.
• Perioperave Clinical Research Commiee (PCRC) Parcipaon
o Review the scienc feasibility and validity of proposed research projects
ulizing MPOG data.
o Aend monthly PCRC meengs and vote on proposed research projects.
• Research Support and Collaboraon
o Serve as the rst point of contact for local researchers at your instuon seeking
to use MPOG data for a research project. Review inial coversheets, aend
research consultaons, and guide local researchers throughout the PCRC
proposal, analysis, and manuscript development processes.
o Encourage and nominate qualied researchers at your instuon to become
PCRC members or to parcipate as potenal PI mentees, supporng the
development of future MPOG research leaders.
o Collaborate with MPOG faculty at other acve MPOG instuons on mul-site
research projects.
• Surgical Registraon Integraon
o When applicable, support the integraon of surgical registry data (e.g., NSQIP,
STS) to MPOG central.
Required Qualicaons
• Professional Background: Must have completed medical doctorate degree training (MD,
MBBS, MBChB, or equivalent), with strong familiarity (ideally clinical training) in
anesthesiology, and a primary faculty appointment (i.e., not an adjunct) at the MPOG
instuon serving the Site PI posion.
• Collaborave Skills: Ability to work collaboravely with IT sta, QI champions, Database
Administrators, and colleagues at the MPOG Coordinang Center.
• Research Integrity: Commitment to evidence-based pracce and ethical conduct in line
with MPOG bylaws and standard regulatory pracces.
Desired Qualicaons
• Experience with performing research and publishing manuscripts ulizing large,
observaonal health datasets.
• Training/familiarity in epidemiology, biostascs, and/or clinical informacs.
