Integrating NSQIP Data with MPOG Data
• Optional for sites that are interested in integrating their surgical registry data with
their MPOG data. Sites must also participate with the ACS National Surgical
Quality Improvement Program (NSQIP) to be eligible to perform this merge.
• If your site would like to start integrating your NSQIP data with MPOG, please visit
our website to fill out an application and begin the process.

Obtain NSQIP Data Download Report
• Whether your institution is submitting NSQIP Peds or NSQIP Adult data, you must
first obtain the Data Download Report.
• Work with your Institution’s NSQIP Surgical Clinical Reviewer (SCR) to obtain a copy of the
Data Download Report.
• Determine cadence for how often this file will be provided and how you will receive it from the
NSQIP SCR
• The file should be in Excel spreadsheet (.xlsx) format
• NSQIP uploads to MPOG can be completed either Monthly or Quarterly

MPOG App Suite: NSQIP Import Utility
• Once you have the Data Download
Report, use the MPOG Application
Suite to input this data into your local
MPOG database.
• The data can then be PHI scrubbed and
transferred to the MPOG Central
repository.
• Open the NSQIP Import application

NSQIP Import
• The application will now insert the
NSQIP data into the local database
and automatically perform patient
matching to existing MPOG patients.
• Matched data will be sent to the
MPOG Central repository when the
patient data is next uploaded.

PHI Scrub
• After the Import process is complete,
please run the PHI scrubber on “Cases
Waiting for PHI scrub”
• Optional: enter the date range of the
NSQIP cases to be transferred
• Depending on the amount of data that
needs to be scrubbed, selecting the
specific date range may decrease the
amount of time for scrubbing to
complete.

Transfer to MPOG Central
• To transfer the scrubbed NSQIP
records, use the Transfer to MPOG
Central application.
• Select ‘Cases awaiting upload’
• Enter the dates that you want to transfer
in the ‘Specify Date Range’ section.
• Unselect the check box for
‘Create/update the PPRL for these
patients’

Import Schedule Options
• There are 46 cycles of 8 days each during which NSQIP data is entered.
• However, changes can be made to a NSQIP record up to 90 days after the date of
service.
• After 90 days, the record is “locked” from modification.
• For this reason, MPOG recommends importing on either a monthly or quarterly
basis using the schedule on the next slide
